CEY is established to provide support for youth serving agencies in Ward I, Boone County. CEY is committed to strengthening nonprofit organizations in our area so they may, in turn, have a greater impact on the community’s youth.
In October 2006, the Columbia-Boone County Community Partnership received a grant award from the Communities Empowering Youth (CEY) program under the Compassion Capital Fund. The purpose of the grant is to build the capacity of faith-based and community organizations that work to reduce youth violence and gang involvement and to foster positive youth development over a three year grant period. What is capacity building? The principal objective of capacity building is to improve the quality of decision-making, program efficiency, and managerial performance in the planning and implementation of the organization’s mission. When this objective is successfully accomplished, the result is more effective organizations, services and programs. The award received allows the BCCP (the lead community based organization) to assist qualifying grassroots and faith-based partners to obtain needed technical assistance and training in four critical areas:
An essential aspect of a stronger nonprofit sector is the continued development of the capacity of nonprofit organizations to operate efficiently and to be effective in the achievement of their respective missions. Therefore, CEY will provide capacity building workshops with a goal of decreasing youth violence. Monthly workshops, scheduled on the second Saturday of each month from 9 AM—2 PM will include the following topics:
